Outstanding exfoliating red bark is the notable characteristic for Abies squamata ‘Flaky’. The peeling bark appears even at a very young age. Intense purple cones stand erect on the upper branches, The dark green needles have white undersides and tips, and are held radially around the shoots. Native to China, the species is considered threatened as it has been exploited in the past for its timber.
