POS Sign - Stewartia koreana 'Bashful' Iseli (Low Res)

Manager Peter Gregg has had a long running passion for the genus Stewartia. He has been collecting and planting millions of seed for many years as a personal hobby. Peter identified this distinctive seedling as a true dwarf, essentially a shrub not a tree. The parent and our oldest propagations (10 years) are naturally compact less than 3’ x 3’ whereas a comparable tree form Stewartia koreana would be tall narrow 12’+. This has not been a prolific blooming selection but may bloom more as a mature plant. Typical Stewartia white flowers with an added slight pink blush when opening. Fall color has been late season, yellows and reds. New growth in spring emerging with red/purple tones to the green leaves, summer green. Not old enough to show bark qualities but the expectations are that with time this will have the multicolored flakling bark of the species. A small plant with subtle beauty improving with time and age. Not for the average gardener. A connoisseur plant.
