Commonly known as Japanese Plum Yew for fruit like an edible plum and appearance similar to large-leafed yews, Cephalotaxus harringtonia cultivars are small evergreen trees or large shrubs. Useful landscape plants in their own right, they also fill in well for yews (Taxus), because they tolerate shady conditions and resist foraging deer. Especially useful in hot southern states and in deer country. Native to Korea, China and Japan, plants are hardy to USDA Zone 6 and warmer areas of Zone 5.
